A Man to Trust - Recipes From Carrie Turansky

I love to cook and bake, and I enjoy including delicious food in my books. Here are a two recipes from A MAN TO TRUST that go perfectly together.

Adrie Chandler, the heroine of A Man To Trust, was raised in Kenya by missionary parents. She often makes Kenyan chai and teaches Ross Peterson, the hero in A Man To Trust, how to make it as well. Irene Jameson, a family friend, brings her homemade cookies to Bayside Books each week where she shares them with Adrie's grandmother and her other friends who are known around town as the Bayside Treasures. They love to play Scrabble and come up with matchmaking plans to bring Adrie and Ross together. Visit Carrie's website to learn more about her books. Purchase A Man to Trust.

Adrie's Kenyan Chai
Our family spent a year in Kenya as missionaries. While we were there we enjoyed the local custom of chai time each day at 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. This is the recipe we used to make Kenyan Chai.

2 cups milk
2 cups water
4 heaping teaspoons sugar, or more to taste
4 teaspoons loose Kenyan tea leaves

Simmer together on the stove for five minutes. Strain into cups. Makes four servings. Enjoy!

Irene's Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies
This is a delicious recipe we borrowed from The Best of the Best and More Cookbook – one of my favorites! These drop cookies taste a lot like brownies, crispy around the edge but still a little chewy in the center.

1 ¾ cups flour
¾ teaspoon baking soda
1 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup sugar
½ cup brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1/3 cup cocoa powder
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup walnuts, chopped
¾ cup milk chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350 degress. Stir together flour and baking soda. Set aside. In a large bowl, cream together butter, vanilla, and sugars. Beat until fluffy. Beat in egg, then cocoa, then milk. Add in flour until just blended. Stir in nuts and chocolate chips. Drop by spoonfuls on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 12 minutes. Cool slightly before removing from the cookie sheet. Makes 3 dozen delicious cookies!
